Our Approach
Hi, we’re Sara and Adam, the husband-and-wife team behind WKND. We live in Arlington, MA with our son, Isaac, and we love to create intentional experiences together.
We are both veterans of the Boston tech scene, and WKND is the third act of our careers. Sara’s background is in community management and early education. She bringing groups of people together to collaborate, discover, and create in ways they couldn’t do on their own. Adam’s work as a product manager has taught him about customer experience and business modeling.
We’ve been the owners of WKND since 2024, and since then we’ve been working to realize our dream of an independent retail business that can thrive in its community and still maintain a strong ethical core. We have both seen what happens to small businesses as they grow; sometimes they lose the part of themselves that makes them special, or they forget what made them start in the first place. We’re never going to trade product quality for higher margins, or load up on something because it’s trendy. We have said no to good products because their packaging is too wasteful. If it’s not what’s right for the community, the environment, and our brand, we won’t do it.
Even though we’re a retailer, our goal is not to get you to buy the most stuff we can. We want you to be happy with a home full of things you can truly enjoy and get lots of use out of. Sometimes that means buying new. Sometimes it means thrifting. Or attending a clothing swap. Or making something yourself. By nature we’re pretty minimalistic, so when we buy something, we’re thinking about whether it’s additive, or whether it’s an upgrade to something we can donate or re-sell. We love to leave a little white space in our house to keep a sense of calm and comfort.
It’s great fun to work on a business with your best friend. We have decades of practice communicating through disagreements and making big decisions together. We hope that when you visit us you see how we take great care to consider the little things. We want you to feel welcome and relaxed. At WKND, we want to help you find real goods, for real good days.
